I added snow peas and shredded carrots since I’m trying to eat more veg, but otherwise made as written. I probably need to bump up the garlic since I added more veg, but that’s on me. It tasted great and the chicken was succulent and moist. It’s definitely a keeper!

Sugar is quite important in this dish because it balances out the saltiness of the soy sauce, and adds a bit of sweetness to the sauce. Without the sugar, the sauce will taste less rich and quite salty.

Some minced pepper definitely adds a bit kick to the sauce and will taste great.

Hi Renette, sorry for the confusion! I replaced the soy sauce with salt in the marinade, and decided to skip the ginger in my final test. Since the sauce is quite garlicky, the ginger taste doesn’t come through much.

Add about 1 teaspoon of finely chopped ginger. I forgot I also added up a minced serrano pepper to give it some spice.
