Yes I did use some toasted sesame seeds as garnish. But I personally don’t think it’s essential so I ended up not adding the ingredient in the recipe. Do feel free to add some if you like the texture!

I think you can add the bok choy after cooking the aromatics. Just a quick stir fry, then the bok choy will soften further after you add the sauce. Depending on the size of the bok choy, you might consider slicing it to cook it properly (sometimes the bok choy is huge and the stem is quite thick). For very large head of bok choy, I would slice the stem into 1/2″ pieces, and the leaves into 1″ pieces. So it’s very fast to cook. The only thing is, the bok choy might release liquid (especially if you use the giant ones), which might change the sauce consistency for a bit. But you can also take a few more seconds to thicken up the sauce before adding back the cooked chicken.
Glad you like the dish and hope the bok choy addition works out 🙂

I am thinking of adding book choy in the last couple of minutes , do you think that would work?

Thanks for the tip about using the Chinkiang vinegar. I definitely tasted the difference! I followed the recipe exactly, except I added a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil to the sauce-as a preference.

This dish is very addictive!! The rich sauce and the lightly battered, bite size portions of chicken is so delicious. I’ve made this dish years ago but very happy to find this recipe for GTC. I will make this on a regular basis now and looking forward to trying more of Maggie’s recipes . Cheers

I’ve tried a couple of other recipes, both of which were more complicated than this so I appreciated the simplicity of this recipe, the tip about how to get crispy chicken and the amazing flavour! My younger daughter who absolutely adores General Tso’s chicken loved this recipe! Being I didn’t have chili peppers I substituted them with chili garlic sauce.
Thank you vry much!

It took longer than 15m of prep but it was worth it. My husband loves “Chinese” food and I wanted to make this for him since I hate ordering in. It was a hit for sure and I will make it again and again!
